Hillhouse Multi-Cultural Drama Club Puts On A Show!

On May 23, theater teacher Lillian Echevarria ( Ms. Echevarria ) showcased a play done in all spanish, starring student Deam Barrozo Alias Sebas as the main character Don Goyito. The name of the play is called Bienvenido Don Goyito. It was inspired by the 2017 satirical comedy movie about a jibaro from the Puerto Rican countryside, who then arrives in the city to live with his sophisticated daughter and refuses to change his values and rural customs from Puerto Rico.  In the play tradition confronts modernity, showing how a society can get caught between its roots and its desire to modernize and ends on an open-minded note where main character Don Goyito has a broader perspective, where he’s more tolerant with the younger generation’s desires even if he isn't fully accepting of it leaving room for the audiences interpretations  Other star students, Miriam Barrozo Alias “ mon”, Ruby Morales, Ottis B. Garcia Alias Byron, Gabriela Moscoso, Paul Muentes, Magaly González, and Dashan J. Gomez acted as the characters Remigia, Pepita, Johnny, Pat, Carlos, Charlie, Susi and Harrison. The play portrays the family and emotional conflicts that Puerto Rico endured due to Americanization. Ms Echevarria initially introduced the Bienvenido Don Goyito script to her theater students on November 19, 2024 giving them both English and Spanish versions along with in class practice time. That's 185 days, roughly 6 months and 4 days in preparation for the showcasing.
